Information Systems Security Officer


Syntasa is looking for an Information Systems Security professional to join our team in Northern Virginia. The qualified individual shall serve as the ISSO point of contact for information assurance activities at the IT system level. You will be supporting Syntasa to ensure the proper operational security posture is maintained for protection of information systems, programs, and/or designated IT assets. 

Because of the constant developing nature of information systems and cyber attacks, officers must be committed to continuous learning and system development. The position will be based on-site in the Northern Virginia area, with a 25-30% annual travel requirement. 

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with CI and Lifestyle Poly
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related Computer Science field
  • Minimum 5 years of security-related experience
  • At least 3 years experience serving as, or supporting, an ISSO or ISSM
  • Experience with annual information system security inspection, review, and testing
  • Experience with information system vulnerability and compliance scanning/testing tools as well as assessment and authorization tools such as Nessus Professional Feed, Tenable Security Center, NMap/ZenMap, RedSeal, and XACTA/XACTA 360.
  • Ability to provide a detailed description and discuss implementation of the ICD 503 Risk Management Framework [Steps 1-6]
  • Demonstrated experience with information security engineering practices and experience with implementation of National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) security controls
  • Exceptional team player with peers as well as internal/external stakeholders
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills focused on enabling, facilitating, and guiding information system owners to an Authority to Operate (ATO)
  • Competent with Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Visio)
  • Broad understanding of security protections typical in network environments, including security
  • Experience providing information system security guidance based on current industry standards and organization policies
  • Ability to assess the impacts on system modifications and technological advances, as well as review systems in order to identify potential security weaknesses, recommend improvements to amend vulnerabilities, implement changes, and document upgrades
  • Prior experience gathering information necessary to maintain security and establish functioning external barriers such as firewalls and other security measures as well as define, create and maintain the documentation for certification and accreditation of each information system in accordance with government requirements
